Prunus serrulata is a species of cherry tree native to Asia (Japan, Korea, China) that belongs to the family Rosaceae.

It is widely used as an ornamental tree for its splendid spring bloom and colorful foliage in autumn. When the sakura cherry tree is in bloom, its leaves exhale a delicious scent.
In Japan, the sakura cherry tree is,(like Mount Fuji), a major symbol that has inspired many poems and works of art.
